Which ED tablets are safe for daily use?

There are plenty of treatments for ED, but the most widely used are tablets called PHE5 inhibitors. These work by increasing blood flow to your penis when you’re aroused. You take a tablet just before you have sex. Perhaps the best known type of this medication is sildenafil (Viagra), but your pharmacist will be able to recommend the best treatment for you.

These tablets all differ slightly – for instance, different medicines last for different lengths of time and start to work at different rates. Tadalafil (Cialis) is the longest acting, but the ‘as needed’ dose should not be taken more than twice a week. If you regularly have sex more than twice a week and want a longer-acting tablet, taking a lower dose daily tadalafil may be suitable for you.

"Most men occasionally experience problems achieving an erection – it’s usually temporary and could well be due to tiredness, alcohol or stress. But if your ED is persistent or recurring, it’s worth seeing your pharmacist to discuss potential treatment options."
